The steering knuckle is a large steel plate with several protruding arms located directly behind the front wheels. It connects the wheel hub (or spindle) to the suspension. The disc brake caliper is installed on the steering knuckle. The steering knuckle, also known as the wheel carrier or steering column, is the final part of the steering system. Each front wheel has a steering knuckle that is used to turn the wheels during cornering.

How the steering knuckle helps the vehicle change direction?

The top and bottom arms of the steering knuckle are connected to the suspension system through pivots called "ball joints". The ball joint causes the steering knuckle to rotate to the left or right. They also maintain their joints in a vertical position. The steering knuckle also has a lateral arm connected to the tie rod. When turning, the tie rod will push the cross arm outward or pull the cross arm inward according to the direction of rotation of the steering wheel. There are tie rods on both sides of the vehicle. When one lateral arm is pushed outward, the other lateral arm is simultaneously pulled inward. This causes the steering knuckle and front wheels to rotate in unison.

What is the function of the steering knuckle?

The name itself implies one of the purposes of installing this component in cars - to ensure the rotation of the front wheels.
