It offers a compact structure and low moment of inertia and can be connected with Y and J1 shaft extensions. Drum gear couplings: During operation, relative angular displacement occurs between the two shafts, causing periodic axial sliding of the internal and external gear surfaces, inevitably leading to tooth wear and power loss. Therefore, gear couplings must operate in a well-sealed environment. Gear couplings offer small radial dimensions and high load capacity, making them commonly used in shafting transmissions under low-speed, heavy-load conditions. High-precision, dynamically balanced gear couplings can be used in high-speed transmissions, such as those used in gas turbine shafting. Drum gear couplings are widely used both domestically and internationally because they offer greater angular compensation than spur gear couplings. Drum gear couplings are a type of rigid-flex coupling. They consist of an inner ring gear with the same number of teeth and a flanged coupling half with external teeth. External teeth are available in two configurations: spur and drum. Drum gear couplings are spherical, with the sphere's center centered on the gear axis. This allows for greater backlash than conventional gears. Drum gear couplings tolerate greater angular displacement (compared to spur gear couplings), improving tooth contact conditions, increasing torque transmission capacity, and extending service life. Drum gear couplings maintain contact along the tooth width when angular displacement occurs. They compensate for radial, axial, and angular axis misalignment, offering advantages such as a compact structure, a small turning radius, high load capacity, high transmission efficiency, low noise, and a long maintenance interval. They are particularly suitable for low-speed, heavy-load applications in industries such as metallurgy, mining, and lifting and transportation, as well as shafting in various types of machinery, including petroleum, chemical, and general-purpose machinery. Features of drum gear couplings (compared to spur gear couplings):

1. High load capacity. With the same internal sleeve outer diameter and maximum coupling outer diameter, the load capacity of a drum gear coupling is, on average, 15-20% higher than that of a spur gear coupling. 2. Large angular displacement compensation. When radial displacement is zero, the allowable angular displacement of a spur gear coupling is 1°, while that of a drum gear coupling is 1°30°, a 50% increase. With the same module, number of teeth, and tooth width, drum gear couplings allow greater angular displacement than spur gear couplings. 3. The drum-shaped tooth surface improves contact conditions between the internal and external teeth, avoiding the stress concentration caused by edge compression on spur gears under angular displacement. It also improves tooth surface friction and wear, reduces noise, and prolongs maintenance intervals. 4. The flared tooth ends of the external sleeve make assembly and disassembly of the internal and external gears very convenient. 5. Transmission efficiency reaches as high as 99.7%. Due to these advantages, drum gear couplings are now widely used in place of spur gear couplings both domestically and internationally.
