What is a Screw conveyor?

Screw conveyors are a common type of conveying equipment used in a wide range of industries, including construction, chemical engineering, and agriculture. The main components of this equipment include a motor, a screw shaft, and a sealed conveying pipe. The operating principle is that the screw shaft rotates, propelling the material along the conveying pipe. The length of this conveyor can be customized to meet specific needs, up to several dozen meters. Significant advantages include simple structure, stable operation, low energy consumption, and easy maintenance. In industrial production, screw conveyors have made significant contributions to improving production efficiency and reducing transportation costs.

Working Principle Material Feed: Rotating spiral blades (auger) on a large hollow shaft rotate within a fixed trough or pipe. Material Conveying: As the auger rotates, material (e.g., ore, tailings, sludge) is trapped in the gap between the blades and the trough. The material is then propelled forward along the length of the trough in a continuous axial flow, much like a nut moving along a rotating screw. Hollow Shaft Function: The hollow center shaft significantly reduces weight without compromising structural strength. This design allows for: Longer Span: Reduces deflection during long conveying distances. Internal Service Potential: The hollow shaft can sometimes be used to route water, gas, or electrical lines for auxiliary functions.

Applications Mining and Minerals: Transport of raw coal (ROM), ore, limestone, and gravel. Feeding and discharging large crushers, mills, and screens. Handling of tailings and other by-products. Cement and Aggregates: Transport of clinker (often hot and abrasive), raw meal, gypsum, and finished cement. Feeding raw materials into kilns or preheaters. Wastewater Treatment: Dewatering and conveying of sludge from clarifiers and concentrators. Transporting of grit and screenings. Agriculture and Grain: High-capacity grain handling in large silos and export terminals. Transport of feed ingredients and finished pellets. Chemical and Industrial: Handling of plastic pellets, fertilizers, and various industrial powders and pellets.
